Actor Zach Galifianakis is definitely an acquired taste. For many traditional comedy fans, his characters are too low brow to offer intelligent humor. However, he doesn’t match the zany, sophomoric styles of Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler either.
Given his niche appeal, Galianakis’ film credits remain moderate at this point. For people who appreciate a diverse mix of comedy stories, the following look at the three best Zach Galifianakis movies may inspire your next evening of entertainment. The films included are based on the actor’s most compelling characters, strongest film plots and top acting performances. Some additional titles are included at the end for you to consider. Due Date, directed by Todd Phillips, is a two-man road trip movie starring Galifianakis and Robert Downey, Jr. The two connect when Peter (Downey), a father-to-be, hitches a ride with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis), and realizes that he is getting more than he bargained for while trying to make it home for the birth of his child.
Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed this romantic comedy-drama about a depressed teen, Craig (Keir Gilchrist), who gets his spirits lifted after checking into an adult psych ward. Galifianakis plays the role of Bobby, an adult patient in the ward, who befriends Craig and shows him how to walk the line between crazy and cool. Emma Roberts co-stars as Craig’s love interest.
Also from Director Todd Phillips, The Hangover tells the crazy story of three friends who wake up after a wild bachelor party night in Las Vegas to find their whole world turned upside down. Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms co-star is this iconic comedy adventure where the trio desperately searches for their friend, the groom (Justin Bartha), so they can return him on time for his wedding. Galifianakis is excellent in his supporting role as a depressed sidekick who is responsible for many of the obstacles the characters must overcome.
