Ryan Reynolds is a handsome Canadian-born actor best known for his comedy film roles. However, he has demonstrated range in his acting as evidence by the three best Ryan Reynolds movies. Criteria used to select the three films include entertainment value, acting performance and quality of his role.
Despite its cheesy premise,Just Friends is a romantic comedy that you can’t help watching over and over. Directed by Roger Kumble, the film tells the story of chubby Chris Brander (Reynolds) who cannot get his high school friend, Jamie Palomino (Amy Smart), to look at him in a romantic way.
Flash forward a few years and Chris is a thin, somewhat neurotic music producer who returns home for Christmas. As he tries to impress Jamie with his career and new figure, his arrogance and a trail of unfortunate events get in the way.
Reynolds is a perfect match for the love-scorn title hero with a morbid sense of humor. The movie features a lot of action and fighting, but it is Reynolds’ ability to deliver witty one-liners that makes this one of his best films.
The Proposal, with Sandra Bullock, received more attention, but this 2008 romantic comedy and drama movie with Isla Fisher was a much better film. Directed by Adam Brooks, Definitely, Maybe is a story about a political consultant explaining his past relationships to his daughter (Abigail Breslin) just ahead of his divorce.
Despite a number of romantic flings, it is the relationship with Fisher’s character throughout the film that is the most endearing.
Other top Ryan Reynolds movies deserving of consideration include (in descending chronological order): Buried (2010), Adventureland (2009), The Proposal (2009), Chaos Theory (2008), Smokin’ Aces (2006), Waiting… (2005), Van Wilder: Party Liaison (2002), Buying the Cow (2002)
