Don’t Breathe is a horror thriller film directed by Fede Alvarez. Three friends, Rocky (Jane Levy), Alex (Dylan Minnette) and Money (Daniel Zovatto), are looking for a way out of town when they get a tip on an “easy” opportunity to score a large pile of cash by robbing a war veteran (Stephen Lang) who recently won a lawsuit after the death of his daughter in a car accident.
When they learn that the target is a blind old man, the trio think they’ve landed upon the perfect score. However, they soon realize that things aren’t always as they seem, and they wind up in a literal fight for their lives.
Though not overt, Don’t Breathe has a few plot holes that alert movie fans will pick up on. For instance, a first key question is why the old man is keeping his money in cash form in a home safe rather than in a bank.
At one point, the hunt includes a pursuit through a dark basement, where the audience is able to see the movements and activities play out even though the characters cannot. This sequence is the high point of a movie that consistently keeps the viewer on edge.
Any fan of quality horror thriller films will enjoy Don’t Breathe. It is full of tense moments and suspense, and each main character seems to have the proverbial nine lives necessary to allow a story like this to evolve.
Don’t watch if you can’t handle the non-stop adrenaline. There is also a particularly disgusting moment toward the end of the movie, but an alert viewer can simply look away at the right moment to avoid any concerns. Of course, occurrences like this are when savvy watchers remind themselves that it is just a movie production and what you see is “not real”.
